One of New England''s most elegant communities, Edgartown was Martha''s Vineyard''s first colonial settlement and it has been the county seat since 1642. The stately white Greek Revival houses found here were built by the whaling captains and have been carefully maintained. They make the town a museum-piece community, a seaport village preserved from the early 19th century. Enjoy a stunning ride on a bike path along the ocean. Indulge in a fabulous picnic lunch on the pier overlooking Edgartown Harbor where you have the option to take the short ferry ride to Chappaquiddick to visit the Japanese Gardens. Visit the century-old Edgartown Lighthouse, and discover intriguing stories of the light keepers who watched over these ocean waters for nearly 150 years.
