From Wood Island take the ferry back to Nova Scotia. Just on the other side is Pictou. It was settled in 1773 by the Scottish Highlanders, and this historic town built a replica of the first ship that brought these settlers. From there, drive to Cape Breton Island and the town of Baddeck, perfect starting point for the Cabot Trail the next day. A famous resident of this area was Alexander Bell. A famous drive today, the Cabot Trail. Start off by traveling to the Margaree Valley, where the waters of the Gulf of St. Lawrence meet at Margaree Harbour. From there, make the famous loop and stop for beautiful views that appear around every corner. On the Atlantic side, see windswept beaches and small fishing communities. After the Cabot Trail travel to Sydney, the Steel City. Overnight in Baddeck.
