Leave Miami Beach this morning and travel north along the coast to upscale Palm Beach. Or just enjoy the coastal drive to Palm Beach, a small island town of palatial homes and majestic gardens. Leave Mount Dora behind and drive south toward Naples. On your way, you might consider stopping in Sarasota to experience some of the most spectacular sandy beaches on the Gulf Coast. Downtown Sarasota is fairly lively with restaurants, cafes, bars, and eateries complementing the excellent group of bookstores for which the place is known. Most visitors stop by the barrier island beaches, a couple of miles across the bay. Another option is to take a tram tour of Spanish Point, a 30 acre site overlooking Little Sarasota Bay dedicated to preserving and interpreting 5,000 years of history. Resume your journey toward Naples.

Naples is easily Southwest Florida’s most affluent and sophisticated city. Today you will travel away from Naples through Florida’s waterway wilderness. The Everglades is often called “the river of grass” because of its slow moving waters and the abundance of saw-grass. It is home to unique plant life and a diverse wildlife that includes the famous Florida alligator. Visit Shark Valley and take an airboat ride to discover this splendor firsthand. Leave the Everglades behind and on your way to Key West you may want to stop at Bahia Honda Key which is one of the State’s most beautiful places to visit. Soon after leaving Bahia Honda you will benefit from gorgeous views over the waters as you cross the Seven Mile Bridge that will take you into Key West.

Key West is the last island on the ribbon that trail off the southern shore of Florida. Duval Street, lined on both sides with dozens of shops and restaurants, is the center of Key West’s life. Visiting the Ernest Hemmingway Home and Museum is a must-do. This is where the author wrote and lived for over ten years; meet some of the sixty cats that reside there. Take a snorkel cruise or a deep-sea fishing trip for a different perspective of the island. Travel north from Key West in route to Miami International Airport. On your way, at about mile marker 102, you will encounter John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park where you can enjoy the beautiful coral reefs on a scuba or snorkel trip.
